Cook tosses complete-game victory, Padron homers

Travis Cook struck out eight in a four-hit, complete-game performance, and Cedarcrest erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning as the Red Wolves cruised to a 12-1 Class 2A state semifinal win over Othello on Friday.

Cameron Padron led Cedarcrest's 13-hit offensive effort with a 3-for-4 performance highlighted by a two-run homer in the third. He added an RBI double in the fourth and a single in the second, and scored the Red Wolves' first run.

Gunnar Swanson also finished 3-for-4, with a two-run double in the fourth and an RBI double in the second.

In the fourth, Cedarcrest sent 12 batters to the plate, swatting seven hits that led to seven earned runs against three Othello pitchers. Tommy Edwards added a two-run double in the frame.

Meanwhile, Cook was overpowering. His only jam came in the fifth, when a one-out single, a walk, a dropped fly ball to right and a wild pitch plated Othello's only run, which was unearned. Cook retired the final eight Othello batters.

Shon Valdez was the Huskies' lone bright spot, finishing 2-for-3.

Mark Bishop finished 2-for-4 and Jeffrey Coble 2-for-5 for the Red Wolves.
