finals
Lefty Cray tosses complete-game victory for Chimacum

Landon Cray tossed a complete-game victory and was
backed with a 15-hit offensive effort as Chimacum held off Meridian for a
6-4 semifinal victory Friday in the Class 1A state baseball tournament.
The win sends the Cowboys (18-3) into Saturday's 4
p.m. championship game, while Meridian (19-8) will play at 10 a.m. for third
place.
Cray, a left-hander, was in control throughout and
ran into trouble only in the seventh, when the Trojans rallied for two runs
on three hits and had the winning run at the plate with two outs.
But Cray struck out Joe Madeira to end the threat
and the game, stranding the tying run at first. Cray struck out 10 and
walked two.
The Cowboys jumped out in front with two runs in the
first on a two-run double by Austin McConnell and a sacrifice fly by Quinn
Eldridge. Eldridge singled home a run in the third, and Cray plated another
run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
The Cowboys stranded 12 runners in the game,
including seven in scoring position.
McConnell finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, and
Cray, Lucas Dukek and Dillon Dukek each were 2-for-4.
Zach Slesk had a solo homer and a sacrifice fly for
the Trojans and finished 2-for-3. Tait Slesk and Mitchell Tripp each
collected two hits.
