YAKIMA, Wash. -- Cody Slater sank two free throws with 27 seconds left, and a last-second La Conner 3-point attempt was blocked as third-ranked Kettle Falls held on for a 53-50 victory in the Class 1A boys state tournament on Thursday.

Slater scored the Bulldogs’ final four points of the game. He hit a field goal with 1:21 to play that gave Kettle Falls the lead for good.

Teammate Brad Fredrickson led with a game-high 20 points, but his blocked shot with two seconds left – his only block of the game – sealed the outcome.

The game featured 15 lead changes and eight ties.
Tony Decker led La Conner with 19 points and Luke Keel finished with 11.

Kettle Falls improved to 22-7, while La Conner finished its year at 18-9.
