YAKIMA, Wash. -- Jon Dresback scored a game-high 24 points, and Freeman withstood a late Winlock run in the Scotties’ 57-52 consolation-round victory Friday in the Class 1A boys state tournament.

Freeman led by as many as 18 points early in the second half only to see the Cardinals charge back and pull within a point twice in the fourth quarter, the last time at 53-52 with 36 seconds to play.

But Russell McCathern and Dresback both sank a pair of free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Sam Brune added 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, four blocks and five steals for Freeman (25-5), which will meet King’s at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for fourth and seventh places.

John Prigmore scored 16 points for the Cardinals, who finished at 17-8. Nate Bryant added 11 points, and Kevin Hauschild and Drew Travis each had 10. Prigmore had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Dresback made 8 of 11 shots, including 4 of 6 3-pointers. He scored 15 of his points in the first half.
