YAKIMA, Wash. -- Christy Sampson found quite a way to celebrate her 17th birthday Thursday.

Sampson nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing that banked in with three seconds remaining and lifted Onalaska to a 49-48 victory over Napavine in the Class 1A girls tournament quarterfinals.

The trey accounted for her only points of the game.

Teammate Alida Bower provided most of the Loggers’ firepower, pouring in a game-high 28 points, including hitting 6 of 13 3-point tries. Bower also had a game-high 15 rebounds as Onalaska dominated the boards 44-28.

The Loggers led by nine early in the fourth quarter before Napavine battled back and tied the game on a layup by Coral Jeidy with 1:22 to play. Jeidy followed with a layup with 31 seconds left before Sampson’s game-winner.

Jeidy paced Napavine with 14 points, and Katie Carns added 13.

Onalaska improved to 19-7 while Napavine fell to 17-8.
