YAKIMA, Wash. -- Tavarius Payne scored a game-high 18 points to lead third-ranked Pullman past Ridgefield 70-57 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 2A boys state tournament.

Payne hit 7 of 14 field goals and 4 of 5 free throws. He also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, blocked four shots and had two steals.

Jay Brossman and Fred Peete added 14 points each for the Greyhounds (21-3). Peete had 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals, and Brossman had a game-high seven assists, a blocked shot, five rebounds and a steal.

Jonny Peru led Ridgefield (19-5) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Chris Rauch added 10 points, and Drew Bleth had 15, including a 4-for-4 effort from 3-point range.
