  Top-Ranked Blaine Rallies for Win

YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Top-ranked Blaine knocked defending runner-up Chelan into the loser’s bracket of the Class 2A girls state tournament on Friday night, toppling the Goats 48-41.

Blaine will play defending champion East Valley in the semifinals Friday at 9 p.m. Chelan will play Tenino at 2 p.m.

Chelan built a 29-24 halftime lead but had to play the second half with two starters -- Sarah Schramm and Cassy Pilkinton -- injured. It limited Chelan’s offensive effectiveness as the Goats scored just 12 points after halftime.

Schramm was injured at the start of the second quarter. She played only 5 1/2 minutes in the second half and had two rebounds. Pilkinton injured a knee at the end of the second quarter and managed to play about 4 1/2 minutes after halftime, managing two points and a rebound.

Jessica Summers led Blaine with 13 points. Shela Robertson had 11.

Coco Poirier had 15 for Chelan, and Kayla Pilkinton added 10.
