White Pass Eliminates
Cougars

White Swan has been to the state 1A basketball tournament five times in six
years. What remains elusive for the Cougars is a state trophy.
For the second straight year, White Swan went two-and-out in the SunDome,
dropping a 55-41 consolation decision to White Pass on Thursday afternoon.
White Swan endured much the same fate as SCAC rival Granger, which was also
eliminated. With offensive rainmakers Chris Jones and Kenneth Fiander
chafing under foul issues, the Cougars were eliminated by White Pass, 55-41.
The Cougars, who were inconsistent down the stretch -- five-game win streak
and two three-game losing streaks in the second half of the season -- go
home without a state tournament win for the fifth time in six seasons.
Thursday’s game was eerily similar to Wednesday’s loss to Bellevue
Christian. The Cougars led that one early, but with Jones in foul trouble,
two of the Vikings big three took over and by the middle of the third period
the Cougars were in deep kimchee.
Jones had 13 points and five rebounds -- none offensive -- and Fiander had
just seven points. White Swan was outscored 24-10 in the final 10 minutes of
the game as Brandon Redmon and AJ Hahn took the game over for Life
Christian.
The pair combined for 21 of the Eagles 33 second half points -- hitting a
combined eight of 12 field goals -- as LCS shot 58 percent from the field in
the second half. Redmon finished with 13 and Hahn 12, half of the four
Vikings in double figures. Anthony Moss had 14 and Kory Hamre 10.
White Swan didn’t shoot that poorly -- 41 percent, seven of 17 -- but making
just one of six free throws didn’t help the cause either.
