Redmon Leads White Pass to Fifth

Brandon Redmon scored 17 points Saturday to lead White Pass to a fifth-place finish in the Class 1A boys state tournament with a 65-54 victory over Winlock.

Anthony Moss and Kory Hamre each added 12 points for the Panthers, who finished with a 19-8 record.

White Pass roared out to a 17-7 first-period thanks to a late surge fueled by Hamre. He converted a three-point play with 1:14 remaining in the period, then added a bucket of an assist from Koda Noblitt.

"We try and focus on playing from the start of the game," White Pass coach Tony Gillispie said. "The league we play in is tough. If you get behind, sometimes you don't get a chance to catch up."

Winlock chipped away at a deficit that got as big as 14 points with a third-period run. The Cardinals got the margin down to three points with 2:36 remaining in the period but it was back to 12 by the end of the quarter as White Pass hit three 3-point field goals.

"They got some momentum and got us back on our heels," Gillispie said. "Those threes allowed us to gather ourselves a little bit, and that was the difference in the game."

Redmon made 5 of 6 field-goal attempts, including two 3-pointers. He also had three assists and five steals. Noblitt dished out nine assists.

Cody Rouse led Winlock (18-10) with 17 points and seven rebounds, and Kevin Hauschild added 14.

Winlock’s eighth-place trophy is the school’s first state-tournament trophy in any sport.
