Brewster Rolls to
Rout, 65-25
YAKIMA, Wash. -- David Pendergraft scored a game-high 16 points to lead
defending Class 1A champion Brewster to a 65-25 rout of Cedar Park Christian
in the boys state tournament Wednesday.
Hawkins Gebbers added 13 points and Ross Brown 10 for
the Bears (22-3), who held the Eagles to just 10 first-half points. Brewster
put the game away with a 19-5 run in the third quarter.
Cedar Park Christian slowed the game down -- to little
avail in the end.
"We expected that," Brewster coach Tim Taylor said. "I
was tempted early to fall back in a zone but we wanted to get a workout in.
"Once we went to a zone in the third quarter, then they
started going at the basket," he said. "I was trying to keep our guys under
wraps but they wanted to get out there and get on them."
Jason Odom led the Eagles (14-11) with seven points.
Pendergraft pulled down eight rebounds as Brewster outrebounded CPC 30-18.
He also had two blocks, two steals and an assist.
The Bears shot 48.1 percent (25 of 52) in the game,
including 54.3 percent (19 of 35) in the second half.
The Eagles conversted only 25.8 percent (8 of 31) of
their shots, and made just 4 of 22 (18.2 percent) in the second half.
