Lind-Ritzville’s Broncos have seen just about enough of Northeast A League
rival Colfax.

Thanks to Friday’s bruising 51-39 semifinal win over Winlock in the Class 1A
girls state tournament, at the SunDome the two teams are not quite done
renewing acquaintances.
They will meet for the seventh time -- Colfax leads the season series 4-2 --
in Saturday’s championship game scheduled for 9 p.m.
The Broncos, the 2003 Class B champions, combined their tenacious defense
and powerful inside game to roar to a 13-3 first period lead and really
never looked back.
Lind-Ritz’s steady point guard, Jessica Heidenreich, led the team with 19
points and passed for four assists. The inside tandem of Tiffany Starring
and Brittney Kubik combined for 232 points and 17 rebounds, providing more
than enough counter to Winlock’s standout center, Summer Sykes.
Sykes scored 20 points, pulled down nine rebounds and blocked three shots.
The Cardinals didn’t have the balance to hang with the Broncos as only
Whitney Bryant joined Sykes in double figures.
The Cardinals cut the Lind-Ritz lead to six points once in the middle of the
fourth period, but the Broncos steadily worked it back up.
“I was a little concerned when they closed the gap a couple times there,”
Lind Ritzville coach Randy Heidenreich said. “They didn’t give up and it got
a little scary.”
Now Heidenreich turns his attention to Colfax yet again.
“I have said all year that they have more talent than anyone in the state,”
he said. “Their depth, which we don’t have, worries me.”
