Woodland Hangs on to Clip Spuds

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Breanne Cochran scored 16 points, and Tara Ward his two key free throws in the final seconds as Woodland held off Ridgefield 47-46 Thursday in the consolation bracket of the Class 2A girls state tournament.

Ward sank two free throws with 47 seconds left that pushed the Beavers ahead 47-43. Ridgefield’s Stephanie Kern sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to close the scoring.

Ward finished with 10 points for the Beavers (18-7), and Cochran and Megan Peabody each pulled down eight rebounds.

Kelly Heald led the Spudders (16-9) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Brooke Lowery added 13 points.
