Leads Blaine to Fifth

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Jessica Summers scored a tournament-high 31 points on
14-of-17 shooting to lead Blaine to fifth place with a 59-50 victory over
Woodland on Saturday in the Class 2A girls state tournament.
Summers had 12 points in the fourth quarter, including
eight straight that pushed the Borderites’ lead to 53-48 with 48 seconds to
play.
The 6-foot-1 senior increased her career tournament
point total to 235, topping the previous record set by Lakeside's Jen Barcus.
Summers also set the record for career tournament field goals made (98),
breaking Barcus' mark of 90.
Shela Robertson added 14 points for Blaine (25-1) and
converted seven of her 10 shots.
Blaine, which earned its fifth trophy in nine
tournament trips and its first fifth-place finish, shot 49 percent (25 of
51) for the game, including 52 percent (13 of 25) in the second half.
Woodland (19-8), which placed eighth and took its
fourth 2A trophy, stayed close until Summers’ scoring spree in the fourth.
Tara Ward had 13 points for the Beavers and Alison
Wesockes added 10. Teammate Breanne Cochran pulled down a game-high 12
rebounds.
