Tyson Sturza sank a 3-pointer as time expired to lift third-ranked Napavine over No. 2 Freeman 44-43 on Friday in the consolation bracket at the Class 1A boys state tournament.

Sturza took the inbounds pass off the left baseline with 1.8 seconds left, and tossed up a slightly off-balance shot under pressure that swished through the net as the final horn sounded.

Sturza finished with a game-high 20 points for the Tigers, who improved to 21-5 and will play Toledo at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for fourth and seventh places.

Teammate Loren Bluhm had 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Freeman, which ended its season at 22-4, broke a 41-41 tie when Dan Sanders put back his own miss with 23 seconds left. Napavine then brought the ball up the court and called timeout to set up the final play.

Malcolm Soelberg led Freeman with 14 points and Andrew Wilkerson added 10.
