Bears claw Burbank 

H. Gebbers leads Brewster with 22 points

Hawkins Gebbers poured in a game-high 22 points, and Michael Taylor added 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead two-time defending state champion Brewster to a 65-35 victory over Columbia (Burbank) on Wednesday in the Class 1A boys state basketball tournament.

Gebbers made 9 of 15 field goals and 4 of 6 free throws as Bears (21-3) rolled to a 29-13 halftime lead. Taylor made 8 of 11 field-goal tries. He added two assists, two blocks and a steal.

The Bears shot 54.2 percent (26 of 48) from the field to Columbia’s 27.7 percent (13 of 47). The Coyotes (15-10) made just 17.4 percent (4 of 23) of their shots in the first half.

Kyle Haworth led Columbia with 13 points.
