Wallace leads Toledo

Indians get quarterfinal matchup with Brewster

YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

Artem Wallace poured in a game-high 22 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead fourth-ranked Toledo to a 54-43 victory over Cascade Christian in the Class 1A boys state tournament on Wednesday.

The victory sets up a quarterfinal showdown at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against two-time defending state champ Brewster, which beat Columbia (Burbank) 65-35 earlier Wednesday.

Toledo beat Brewster, ranked fifth, 54-42 in the Tourneytown.com Shootout in the Yakima Valley SunDome on Jan. 17. (For more on that game, click here.)

Chad Amrine added 14 points for the Indians (21-3), who rolled to a 32-15 halftime lead.

The Cougars (16-7), led by Jordan Williams’ 18 points, used a 19-12 fourth-quarter run to close to a respectable margin.

But the also suffered from poor shooting, making just 25.9 percent (15 of 58) of their shots -- including just 6 of 28 3-point tries.
