Freeman’s Jessie DePell scored 40 points to lead the top-ranked Scotties to a 78-67 quarterfinal victory over White Pass on Thursday in the Class 1A girls state tournament.

DePell scored 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting in the second half in the back-and-forth contest. Her layup with 3:42 to play put Freeman ahead to stay.

For the game, DePell converted 15 of 25 shots, including 3 of 6 treys, made 7 of 10 free throws, pulled down 11 rebounds and had seven steals and two assists.

Kendra Redmon scored 21 points and Breanna Moody added 15 for the Panthers (19-6). Moody added eight rebounds.

Freeman, winning only their second state-tournament game in six tries, improved to 22-2.
