Lyncs hang on,
beat Baker again

Burgers' 17 points lift LC to 44-42 victory

YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

Kevin Burgers scored a game-high 17 points – including the go-ahead basket with 18 seconds remaining – as third-ranked Lynden Christian held off Mount Baker 44-42 on Thursday in the consolation bracket of the Class 2A boys state tournament.

After Burgers’ putback lifted LC ahead 43-42, teammate Mike Scholten sank a free throw with eight seconds left, and Mount Baker couldn’t get off a final shot before the buzzer sounded.

It was the fourth time this season that the Lyncs, who improved to 19-6, beat the Mountaineers, who finished at 15-11.

Kyle Coston added 10 points for the Lyncs before fouling out. Burgers also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Levi Garrett led Mount Baker with 16 points and six rebounds, and Tyler Murray added 14 points.
