Brandon Swanson scored 12 points and James Gehring added 10 as Castle Rock eliminated Hoquiam, 40-29, from the Class 2A boys state tournament Thursday.

Gehring and Josh Wegner each pulled down seven rebounds for the Rockets, who improved to 21-4.

Castle Rock built a 23-12 halftime lead and didn’t let the Grizzlies climb closer than five points in the second half.

Hoquiam, last year’s state champion, finished at 15-10. The Grizzlies also set two dubious records, managing only 57 points in two state games for a 28.5 average, breaking Forks’ 2004 marks of 69 and 34.5, respectively.
