Quincy into semis
 

Six free shots in closing minutes lift Jacks

YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

Quincy sank six free throws over the final two and a half minutes to beat Steilacoom 46-40 Thursday night in a Class 2A boys state tournament quarterfinal game.

Smokey Baughman’s free throw with 2:35 remaining snapped a 40-40 tie and gave the Jackrabbits (20-6) ahead. Chris Pontarolo-Maag and Dustin Kniep each added two free throws, and Gabe Lopez also tossed in a free shot.

The win sends the Jacks into Friday’s 9 p.m. semifinal against Grandview, a 42-41 winner over Pullman.

Matt Medina and Pontarolo-Maag each scored 15 points to lead Quincy. Kniep had eight points, and Baughman pulled down six rebounds.

Colby Davies scored 15 points to lead Steilacoom (17-8), which will play Pullman at 2 p.m Friday.
