Michael Miller scored a game-high 25 points as
top-ranked Cashmere rallied back to beat Vashon Island 71-58 on
Wednesday in the first round of the Class 2A boys state tournament.
Miller had 14 of his points in the second half,
when the Bulldogs (21-3) battled back from a 44-40 deficit late in the
third quarter with a 19-4 run – including 11 straight points – that put
Cashmere up 59-48 with 3:01 to play.
Cashmere shot 61.1 percent (11 of 18) from the
field in the second half to Vashon Island’s 32.4 percent (12 of 37).
Miller finished 13 for 15 from the free-throw line.
He also had eight rebounds, two steals, a blocked shot and three
assists.
Matt Caples added 18 points and Patrick Cloakey 10
for the Bulldogs. Joe Boyle pulled down 11 rebounds and Caples had 10.
Clay Gleb scored 14 points and Quintin Barnes added
12 for the Pirates (18-5).
