Kyle Coston scored five of his game-high 13 points
in overtime as Lynden Christian rallied back to defeat Forks 47-42 in
overtime Saturday to finish fifth in the Class 2A boys state tournament.
The Lyncs (21-6) trailed by six points, 34-28, with
3:16 to play in regulation before reeling off six straight, including a
Coston field goal with 1:38 to go that knotted the score at 34.
A Forks 3-point attempt with 2 seconds left in
regulation missed its mark.
Brett Van Weerdhuizen sank a 3-pointer to open the
extra period, igniting a 6-0 Lyncs run they’d never relinquish.
Jason Kooi and Kevin Burgers each added nine points
for LC.
David Burr scored 12 points to lead the Spartans,
and teammate Dustin Daniels pulled down eight rebounds.
The 6-foot-8 Coston grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds
as the Lyncs outrebounded the shorter Forks squad 41-24. Coston also had
three blocks.
The eighth-place trophy for Forks, which finished
its season at 20-8, was only its second in school history. The Spartans
finished sixth in 1969.
