Cashmere rallies
back, places fourth

Bulldogs' 22-4 run stops Pullman, 59-52, in OT

Jon Gasbar and Matt Caples powered a 22-4 Cashmere run over the game’s final eight minutes to lift top-ranked Cashmere to a 59-52 overtime victory over Pullman for fourth place Saturday in the Class 2A boys state tournament.

Gasbar and Caples scored seven points each during the charge, which started with Cashmere trailing 48-37 with 4:04 remaining in regulation.

Two Gasbar free throws tied the score at 48 with 42 seconds remaining. Pullman turned the ball over on its next possession, and Cashmere missed a shot at the buzzer to win it.

After Pullman score the extra period’s first two points, Caples scored three straight to give the Bulldogs the lead for good.

Cashmere finished the year at 23-5, while Pullman, placing seventh, ended at 19-8.

Joe Boyle led Cashmere with 14 points and Michael Miller added 11 and eight rebounds.

JT Levenseller led Pullman with 18 points and Kyle Hinrichs had 10.

   Cashmere -- Frost 4-8 3-8 11, Caples 2-5 3-6 7, Gasbar 2-6 5-6 9, Miller 4-13 3-6 11, Boyle 5-13 2-2 14, Cloakey 2-3 1-2 7. Totals 19-48 17-30 59.
