Matt Medina scored a game-high 18 points as Quincy held off Castle Rock down to stretch to beat the Rockets 36-32 Wednesday in the opening round of the Class 2A boys state tournament.

The Jackrabbits took the lead for good when Medina hit a 3-pointer to open the second half, then Quincy made eight of nine free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to keep Castle Rock at bay. Medina hit four free throws in the final two minutes.

Medina was just 4 of 15 from the floor, but all four were treys. He was 6 for 7 from the line.
