Eagles will face East Valley for 5th on Saturday

Coriann Wood and Anny Lyle each pumped in 14 points as third-ranked Connell beat Steilacoom 56-40 Friday in the consolation bracket of the Class 2A girls state tournament.

The win sends the Eagles (21-6) into Saturday’s 9 a.m. game for fifth place against Central Washington Athletic Conference rival East Valley of Yakima. Steilacoom ended its season at 19-6.

Wood scored 10 of her points in the first half as the Eagles built a 28-21 halftime lead. Connell put the game away in the third with an 11-5 run that featured four points from Lyle.

Both Wood and Lyle made 4 of 7 shots from the field, and each sank six free throws.

Darcelle Esmeralda led the Sentinels with 15 points, and Kaycie Rueter added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
