Brooke Lowery poured in a game-high 22 points to
lead Ridgefield past Steilacoom 61-56 in the Class 2A girls state
tournament Wednesday.
Lowery scored 13 of her points in the first half as
the Spudders (17-7) rolled up a 35-18 halftime lead. Steilacoom (18-5)
managed to cut its deficit to within 10 points midway through the fourth
quarter, but Ridgefield led by at least six until the final minute.
Caitlin Hutchison added 11 points for the Spudders,
and teammates Tiffany Dawkins and Lauren Hefflin each had 10.
Lowery also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds,
but Steilacoom dominated the boards 52-32. The Sentinels’ Mele Rich tied
the individual-game record with 20, which included nine offensive
rebounds.
Darcelle Esmeralda scored 15 points, Danielle Scala
12 and Kaycie Rueter 11 for Steilacoom.
