Luke Heinen sank two free throws with 28 seconds left, and Cascade
Christian couldn’t get off a final viable shot as Freeman held off the
Cougars 43-40 Wednesday in the first round of the Class 1A boys state
tournament.
Heinen, who scored eight points, hit his shots after Cascade Christian
pulled within one point, 41-40, for the last time in the contest.
The Cougars worked upcourt and called a timeout with 10 seconds left,
but turned the ball over when the game resumed. Freeman turned the ball
over with two seconds left, but the Cougars couldn’t get off a shot
before the buzzer.
The Cougars’ Jordan Williams led all scorers with 18 points, and
teammate Ryan Everett had nine rebounds.
Mark Sanders led Freeman with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
