Carsten Schmiedl and Colin Madden each poured in 15 points as Overlake held off Columbia (Burbank) 56-49 Wednesday in the Class 1A boys state tournament.

Madden scored five points, including a 3-pointer, during the Owls’ 19-11 second-quarter run, in which Overlake rallied from a 15-10 first-quarter deficit for a three-point halftime lead.

Jonathan Bechtol, who finished with 14 points, added four in the second quarter to spark the charge.

Bechtol also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Owls (18-5).

Michael Shelton had 15 points and Elias Serrano and Jake Haworth added 12 each for the Coyotes (10-15).
