Levi Davis scored 13 points and Matt Smith added 12 as River View posted
a mild upset over Colfax, 43-38, in the first round of the Class 1A boys
state tournament Wednesday.
It was the first victory in state-tournament play for the Panthers in 11
tries. River View is now 1-8 at the Class 1A level. The school is 0-2 in
2A tournaments.
River View, the No. 3 seed out of the Yakima Valley District, took the
lead for good in the seesaw contest on Nick Gaston’s 3-pointer with 5:09
to play that broke a 26-26 tie.
The Panthers eventually built a nine-point lead late in the contest.
Smith had nine of his points in the second half, including six in the
fourth quarter.
Brian Danaher led Colfax with 13 points, and teammate Matthew Johnson
pulled down 10 rebounds. Colfax outrebounded River View 41-24.
