Third-quarter rally
lifts Warden to win

Cougars will meet Burbank for fifth on Saturday

Ashton Stott sparked a 15-0 third quarter run with seven straight points as Warden rallied for a 54-43 consolation-round win over Seattle Academy in the Class 1A girls state tournament Friday.

Warden, which trailed by nine points late in the first half, advances to Saturday’s 10:30 a.m. contest against Burbank for fifth and eighth places.

Britney Yamane, who finished with 11 points, put the Cougars ahead for good, 29-28, with a pair of free throws at the 2:23 mark in the third quarter.

Warden then put the game away at the free-throw line, making 17 of 19 attempts in the second half.

Dana Bates led Warden with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Makenzie Brandon scored 16 points and Lily Ramseyer added 10 for Seattle Academy, which ended its year at 18-7.
