Bulldogs get their
chance to threepeat

Colfax stops top-ranked White Swan, 53-46

Colfax's girls have earned an opportunity to make history.

By fending off White Pass 53-46 in a Class 1A girls semifinal Friday night in the SunDome, the Bulldogs get a chance to become the third team in tournament history to win three consecutive championships when they meet Bellevue Christian on Saturday for the title.

Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m.

White Pass will meet Zillah at 5 for third and sixth places.

Cle Elum (1981-83) and Lynden Christian (1990-92) were the other two programs to win three successive titles. Colfax has won three of the last four crowns, with Brewster intervening in 2003.

Meagan Teade scored 13 points and Jordan Harazin had 11 as the Bulldogs, 23-4 and ranked third, built a 14-point second-half lead.

But White Pass, 24-2 and ranked No. 1, staged with an 8-0 run to get within 44-37 on Deanna Riffe's basket with 5:10 to play.

Kylie Shaw made a free throw for Colfax, after which Riffe hit twice from the line for a 45-39 Bulldogs lead.

Harazins then drove the lane for left-handed banker at 3:31, and after Riffe made another free throw, Shaw scored from the lane to put Colfax ahead 49-40 with 2:40 left.

Kendra Redmon, 5-foot-3 senior and White Pass' top scorer with 14 points, then hit a long 3-pointer from the right wing to make it 49-43 at 2:26 before Lauren Mellor, a 6-0 junior, made two foul shots for the Bulldogs with 2:16 remaining.

A basket by Kristen Andrew and a free throw by Jaimye Ashley drew the Panthers to within 51-46 with 1:22 left, but two Harazin free throws closed the scoring in the final 30 seconds.

Breanna Moody, a 5-10 sophomore, had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals for White Pass (24-2). But the Panthers shot only 26 percent from the field to Colfax's 46 percent, although the Bulldogs committed 25 turnovers to White Pass's 19.
