Chris O’Day tapped in the game-winning shot off a missed free throw as the buzzer sounded to give Nooksack Valley a 38-37 victory over Cashmere on Friday in the Class 2A boys state tournament.

With Nooksack trailing 37-35, Jeb Hobbs was fouled on a shot with 0.7 seconds left. He sank the first free throw, but, after a timeout, missed the second shot.

O’Day went up and tipped the miss, it bounced three times on the rim and went in after the final horn had sounded.

The win sends the Pioneers (20-8) into Saturday’s noon game for fourth place. Cashmere ended its season at 22-5.

Dan Skillman led the Pioneers with 12 points.
Michael Miller paced the Bulldogs with 16 points and Matt Caples had 12.
