Michael Miller poured in 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as Cashmere held off Steilacoom 46-43 in the first round of the Class 2A boys state tournament Wednesday.

Teammate Patrick Cloakey sank a field goal with 4:50 remaining to break a 34-34 tie and give the Bulldogs the lead for good. Miller had seven points in the final quarter, in which Cashmere led by no more than four points.

Cashmere improved to 22-3, while Steilacoom, which missed a game-tying 3-point attempt at the final buzzer, slipped to 17-9.

Greg Ford paced the Sentinels with 14 points, and Wayne Orona and Marcus Reaves each added 11.

Matt Caples scored 17 points for Cashmere.
