Emmi Johannssonn scored four straight points late in the game to help
Hoquiam fend off Forks 36-28 for fifth place in the Class 2A boys state
tournament Saturday.
The Spartans, who trailed by 14 in the third quarter, mounted a furious
comeback with a 14-2 run that closed the score to 28-26 with 3:11 to
play.
But Johannssonn then canned two buckets in a 1:02 span that put the
Grizzlies safely ahead. Forks never got closer than four the rest of the
way.
The two schools split their four meetings this season. Hoquiam ended its
year at 23-4, while the Spartans finished 21-6.
The Spartans' shooting was ice-cold. They made just 9 of 44 (20.5
percent) of their shots in the game, including just 4 of 20 in the
second half. They missed all 13 3-point attempts.
Forks’ Dallas Huggins scored a game-high 13 points, including seven
during the Spartans’ charge. He also pulled down seven rebounds.
