Keith Moilanen scored a game-high 17 points as Hockinson posted a 69-49
win over Connell in its first-ever Class 2A boys state tournament game
on Wednesday.
Moilanen scored 13 of his points after the half – including 11 at the
free-throw line -- as the Hawks (20-4) pushed well in front with a 20-13
third-quarter run. Kyle Kalian and Tyler Pearce added 12 and 11 points,
respectively.
The Hawks’ defense came up with 10 steals and helped force the Eagles
(11-15) into 19 turnovers. Hockinson converted those turnovers into 16
points.
Tyler Hawkins paced Connell with 15 points, and Spencer Hadley added 14
before fouling out. Hawkins also had seven rebounds.
Hockinson made 32 of 42 free-throw tries, just three shy of the
tournament record of 35 set by Chewelah in 2005.
