Cashmere, 62-60

Bulldogs' last-second shot falls short

TOURNEYTOWN.COM

Arthur Sawe scored 17 points for University Prep, and a last-second Bulldog shot missed its mark to lift the Pumas to a 62-60 consolation victory over Cashmere on Friday in the Class 1A boys state tournament.

Cashmere, which trailed by seven points with 54 seconds to play, cut the deficit to the final margin on a layup by Michael Miller with nine seconds to play.

After a foul and two missed U. Prep free throws with six seconds left, Nick Ovenall's three-point attempt from the baseline hit off the front of the rim and bounced away as the buzzer sounded.

Michael Zieve added 16 points, including 12 in the second half, and Grant Jostol 13 for the Pumas (17-7).

U. Prep will face either King's or Bellevue Christian at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for fourth and seventh places.

Miller led Cashmere (17-12) with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Edgar Farias chipped in 13 points and Ovenall 12.

The Pumas made 53 percent of their shots (25 for 47), including 59 percent (13 of 22) in the second half.
