Bret Handy led three Nooksack Valley players in double-figures as the 10th-ranked Pioneers rolled to a 66-33 first-round win over Onalaska in the Class 1A boys state tournament Wednesday.

Handy scored 18 points, Chris Mitchell 16 and Jeb Hobbs 10 as NV cruised to a 41-10 halftime lead.

The Pioneers also dominated the backboards, holding a 37-20 edge -- including a 20-3 advantage in the first half. Hobbs grabbed 10 rebounds, and Kyle Bosscher and Mitchell five each.

NV shot 60.7 percent from the floor in the first half, making 17 of 28 shots, while the Loggers managed just 30.8 percent (4 of 13).

Rich Skillman, Handy and Efren Zavala each had three steals for NV.

Tony Sword led the Loggers with nine points, all on three-pointers.
