Downs' 40-point effort gave him 301 career points, surpassing the old
record of 282 set by Chris Faidley of King's in 2001-2004.
Downs also sank a record-tying eight three-pointers in the game,
matching a record set by Ephrata's Travis King in 1992 and tied by
Faidley in 2003. He was taken out late in the fourth quarter.
Did he wish he could have stayed in to break the three-point record?
“That would have been fun, but we had the game won,” Downs said. “No
point rubbing it in.
“Records are fun, but it’s not worth demoralizing the other team.”
Downs scored 17 points in the first quarter as the Vikings (21-4) rolled
out to a 23-7 lead. The game never got closer than 15 points the rest of
the way.
Evan Haines added 13 points and nine rebounds for BC, which will face
University Prep at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for fourth and seventh places.
Bryan Ayers scored 12 points to lead King's.
