BC beats U.Prep
again, places fourth
Downs
scores 34 in Vikings' 68-57 victory
TOURNEYTOWN.COM
Jeffrey Downs scored a game-high 34 points to lead Bellevue Christian
past University Prep 68-57 Saturday for fourth place in the Class 1A
boys state tournament.
Downs, who broke the all-time Class 1A state tournament scoring record
Friday with 40 points, finished his four-year career with 335 points in
state tournament games.
The Vikings, who beat U.Prep for the fourth straight time this season,
finished at 22-4. The Pumas ended their season at 17-8.
BC raced to a 17-2 lead behind two 3-pointers by Downs, but U. Prep
battled back to take a 38-37 lead late in the third quarter.
But BC then ran off seven straight points to retake the lead for good,
and the Pumas couldn’t get closer than three points the rest of the way.
BC’s Evan Haines pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and had seven of
his team’s 12 blocked shots.
Grant Jostol led the Pumas with 21 points, and D’Vonzo Sanders added 11.
