King's rolls to big
opening win, 68-37

Sarah Strand poured in 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds as top-ranked King's rolled past Kalama 68-37 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 1A girls state tournament.

Strand made 9 of 15 shots, including sinking 4 of 5 from behind the three-point line. Teammate Danielle Clauson added 15 points, including a pair of three-pointers.

The Knights (23-3) rolled up a 43-21 halftime lead, and Kalama (16-8) never got closer than the intermission margin.

King's took advantage of its second chances, converting 32 second-chance points. The Knights came away with 16 offensive rebounds.

The King's defense came up with 16 steals, including five from Clauson, as Kalama committed 27 turnovers.

Mandy Wall led Kalama with nine points and four rebounds.
