Love's defense lifts
Chelan past Connell

Goats move to semifinals with 51-45 victory

TOURNEYTOWN.COM

Alisha Love scored a game-high 13 points, but it was her diving steal with 22 seconds remaining that sent the Chelan Goats into the semifinals with a 51-45 victory over Connell in the Class 1A girls state tournament Thursday.

Love’s backcourt steal, with the Goats holding a slim 47-45 lead, kept Connell from being able to play for the final shot at the tie, or perhaps a 3-pointer to win. Instead, Connell had to go after the ball, and star senior Coriann Wood — whose 30 points on 12-for-17 shooting led the Eagles — picked up her fifth foul five seconds later.

Kristin Schramm and Kaiti Harris each sank a pair of free throws in the final 17 seconds to close out the victory.

Wood had gotten Connell back into the game twice in the late going, hitting a 3-pointer to tie the game at 42-42 and then scoring a 3-point play to give the Eagles a 45-44 lead. But a layup by Love put the Goats back in front, setting the stage for her late heroics.

Schramm finished with 12 points and three steals. Love also had two assists and two steals.
