in its first-ever semi

Johnson scores 18 to power Hawks' 58-50 win

TOURNEYTOWN.COM

Antonio Johnson led three players in double figures with 18 points to lead Tulalip Heritage past Tri-Cities Prep 58-50 in the Class 1B boys state quarterfinals Thursday.

The win sends the Hawks (22-3), making their first-ever state tournament appearance, into a 5:30 p.m. Friday semifinal matchup against Liberty Christian (19-8), which beat Almira/Coulee-Hartline 61-44 earlier Thursday.

Tulalip led most of the way until the Jaguars (19-8) knotted the score at 45-45 on a shot by Andrue Ott with 4:48 to play. But Lesjar McKinney answered with a field goal a minute later, and Johnson scored another basket as the Hawks pulled ahead.

Tri-Cities Prep never got closer than two points the rest of the way.

McKinney finished with 16 points and Jeff Monsegur 15 for the winners. Johnson pulled down 10 rebounds and McKinney had eight.

Christian Roach led Tri-Cities Prep with 13 points, while Sergio Lopez added 12. Ott and Matt Campbell each finished with 11, and Ott grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.
