Colton turns back
T-O, earns 1st trophy
Wildcats hang on for 45-42 win, third place
TOURNEYTOWN.COM
Rochelle Druffel led three players in double-figures with 12 points to
lead Colton to a 45-42 victory over Tekoa-Oakesdale and third place in
the Class 1B girls state tournament on Saturday.
The fifth-ranked Wildcats, who finished their year at 23-6, won the
school’s first-ever basketball trophy. Tekoa-Oakesdale ended its year at
19-9.
Courtney Druffel scored seven of her 10 points in the second half, when
T-O rallied back from three seven-point deficits and eventually pulled
to within one, 43-42, with 54 seconds to play.
But a pair of free throws by Ashley Nygreen put Colton up by three, and
a T-O three-point try at the buzzer bounced away.
Alisa Moehrle also had 10 points for Colton, and Sammie Druffel led the
rebounding effort with eight.
Shelby Pucket scored 14 points and Kelsi Graffis 10 for the Nighthawks,
who fell behind 21-7 after the first quarter but used a 15-5
second-quarter run to pull within 26-22 at halftime.
