Four Wildcats pace win in 1st state appearance

Rochelle Druffel led four players in double figures with 17 points as fifth-ranked Colton easily defeated Cusick 63-41 in the first round of the Class 1B girls state tournament Wednesday.

Sammie Druffel added 13 points, Courtney Druffel 12 and Alisa Moehrle 11 as the Wildcats improved to 21-5.

Courtney Druffel also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, though Colton was outrebounded 51-34 by Cusick.

Amanda Smith led Cusick (11-14) with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

But the Panthers, who trailed 30-20 at halftime, never got closer than seven points in the second half.

The Wildcats converted 9 of 32 three-point attempts, including 5 of 14 in the second half. Rochelle Druffel canned five treys, and Moehrle swished three.
