Eagles nip Rockets,
47-45
Bettinger free throws ice Cedar Park Christian's victory

Riley Bettinger sank
three free throws in the final 41 seconds as Cedar Park Christian
rallied back to eliminate fifth-ranked Castle Rock 47-45 from the Class
1A boys state tournament Thursday.
Bettinger, who scored
a game-high 28 points, poured in 15 in the second half as the Eagles
(15-8) came back from a nine-point deficit in the third quarter.
Castle Rock, which
ended its year at 20-5, pulled within the final margin on Kyle
Karnofski's trey with 2 seconds left. The Rockets had to foul to attempt
to get the ball back, but, after two missed free throws with 0.6 seconds
on the clock and two timeouts, the Rockets couldn't successfully
inbounds the ball for a try at a final shot.
Clint Burgoyne led
Castle Rock with 13 points, and Karnofski had six rebounds.
Castle Rock led by
nine midway through the third quarter but couldn't put the Eagles away.
Bettinger gave CPC its first lead since the opening moments on a
3-pointer with 4:41 to play that pushed the Eagles ahead 37-36.
The teams traded leads
four more times until Jon Ramos hit two free throws that gave CPC a
44-42 lead the team would never relinquish.
The Rockets made 52
percent (14 of 27) of their field-goal attempts.
