Nick Hardy sank two free
throws with five seconds left to secure a King's consolation victory
over Lake Roosevelt, 62-58, Friday in the Class 1A boys state
tournament.
Hardy stole the ball
at midcourt as Lake Roosevelt was trying for a final shot, was fouled
and calmly hit the final shots.
The Raiders pulled
within two points, 60-58, when Coby Dick hit a 3-pointer with 18 seconds
left. After a timeout, King's missed an easly layup after a cross-court
pass, which set up the final sequence.
King's (22-6) will
meet Cedar Park Christian at 9 a.m. Saturday to play for fifth and
eighth places.
Erich Fuhlendorf led
the Knights with 18 points, and Hardy added 14, 10 in the second half.
Teammate Dylan O'Neil had 11 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
Dick and Matt
Pleasants paced the Raiders (22-7) with 17 points each. Dick hit three
3-pointers.
King's was hot from
the field, converting 50 percent (18 of 36) of its shots.
