Austin Benson scored nine of his game-high 14 points in the second half as defending champion Brewster cruised to a 65-38 win over fifth-ranked Castle Rock in the Class 1A boys state tournament Wednesday.

The Bears (17-10) shot a blistering 61 percent (25 of 41), taking the lead for good on a Bryce Scheller basket with 2:58 to go in the first quarter. Scheller finished with 11 points, and Stockton Taylor and Cole Youngers each added nine.

Castle Rock suffered from cold shooting, making just 29 percent (12 of 41) for the game, and just 19 percent (3 of 16) in the second half.

The Rockets (20-4) also committed 22 turnovers, which Brewster converted into 17 points.

Benson made 5 of 8 field foals. He also had three assists and two steals.
