Bulldogs earn 10th straight trophy with 65-49 win over NV

Kayla Johnson scored a
game-high 18 points as Colfax defeated Nooksack Valley 65-49 on Saturday
for fourth place in the Class 1A girls state tournament.
Sadie Lazzarini added
15 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs (24-5), who trophied for the
10th straight year and 16th time overall in 20 appearances. Colfax won
the state title the past four straight years.
Erika Ramstead paced
the Pioneers (17-12) with 16 points and seven rebounds. The
seventh-place finish was NV's third in school history.
Colfax scored the
game's first 14 points. NV cut the lead to 14-12, then the Bulldogs
raced back ahead 26-14. The Pioneers never got closer than six points
the rest of the way.
The Bulldogs defense
came away with 11 steals, including three from Johnson, as Nooksack
committed 19 turnovers. Colfax converted the turnovers into 25 points.
Colfax outrebounded NV
40-35, including grabbing 19 offensive rebounds. Six of Lazzarini's 10
rebounds were off the offensive glass.
