Kameron Firouzi and Tim Gjefle each sank free throws in the final 9 seconds, and a last-second 3-point try by Garfield-Palouse missed as Moses Lake Christian edged Gar-Pal 51-48 Thursday in a Class 1B boys quarterfinal game.

The win sends the Lions (16-6) into Friday’s 7:30 p.m. semifinal game against either Tekoa-Oakesdale or Lake Quinault.

MLC led by 10 points, 37-27, midway through the third quarter before Gar-Pal rallied to take a 44-41 lead with 3:22 remaining in the game. MLC retook the lead for good on a Firouzi free throw with 2:13 to play, but Gar-Pal never trailed by more than three.

After Firouzi and Gjefle hit their free shots, Gar-Pal took a timeout at half-court, then set up Gavin Burt for the final shot. It hit the rim and bounced away as the final horn sounded.

Isaac Murrell led MLC with 13 points, and Taylor Sandberg added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Scott Smith paced the Vikings (20-5) with 15 points, and Tyson Palmer had 10. Todd Pinter pulled in a team-high 11 rebounds.
