Scott Smith scored a game-high 19 points -- including 15 from the free-throw line -- as Garfield-Palouse bolted to an early lead and cruised to a 62-51 consolation victory over Lake Quinault on Friday in the Class 1B boys state tournament.

Tyson Palmer added 13 points for the Vikings (22-4), who will play Neah Bay at noon Saturday for fourth and seventh places.

Gar-Pal rushed out to a 31-13 lead at halftime and was never seriously threatened. The Vikings put the game away at the free-throw line, converting 32 of 50 shots, including 19 of 28 in the second half.

Casey Elder led the Elks (19-5) with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
